This term was developed by Borla, who is credited with inventing it. Essentially, a Borla Cat-BackTM exhaust replaces the entire stock system, from the catalytic converters “back” to their tips. Sounding Exhaust For Toyota Tacoma
The Borla system delivers the most dramatic improvement in sound because it includes improvements to virtually all piping under the hood using Borla X-Pipe technology and ultra-smooth mandrel bends. There are several Borla Cat-Back TM systems available for a wide range of popular cars and trucks, all of which come in your choice of three sound technologies – ATAK®, S-Type and Touring – each with its own volume and character.
Using exhaust valves, Borla exhaust systems offer an advanced solution for modern vehicles using fuel savings, as well as providing controls for driving modes, volume and more. Engineers spent years testing and refining an improved premium design ensuring that these valves are correctly integrated into your vehicle’s architecture while meeting the demands of a Borla exhaust upgrade. Our exhaust systems deliver maximum performance and sound thanks to Borla valves, which are manufactured in the USA under rigid standards, while providing years of driving enjoyment.
Borla “Cat BackTM” exhaust systems are installed behind the factory catalytic converter, and factory emissions remain intact, allowing the vehicle to remain emissions compliant. Axle Back exhausts are located behind the rear axle. This is different. The Cat Back performance exhaust was introduced by Alex Borla in 1978 as a bolt-on replacement to the factory exhaust system that did not require welding. The performance exhaust uses factory hangers, therefore no welding is required.
Borla Cat Back exhaust systems can be customized to fit your exact vehicle, since Borla mufflers are engine-specific (not universal). These mufflers are specially designed, tested, and optimized for your vehicle. Sound and performance are both increased with Borla Cat Back systems.
Borla Cat Back performance exhaust systems require cutting the factory exhaust system before installation on vehicles without factory service points. In addition to the hardware needed to complete installation, the tassel includes instructions for where to make this cut.
A factory service-point is located in the exhaust tubing behind the catalytic converter in most modern vehicles (flange or slip-fit). Borla Cat Back performance exhausts replace the manufacturer’s exhaust system (behind this service point) using the original vehicle hangers and rubber isolators.
Borla pioneered the aftermarket for automotive exhausts manufactured using aircraft grade 304 stainless steel tubing, a material with a higher carbon and nickel content that will not rust or corrode.
“Axle Back” exhausts or rear section exhausts refer to vehicles with exhaust systems located behind their rear axles. It usually takes under an hour to complete the installation, and there is no cutting of the factory system required. An aftermarket Borla axle back performance exhaust system improves the sound level both inside and outside the cabin. Borla axle back exhaust systems use engine-specific (not universal) mufflers that are tailored specifically to a vehicle’s year, make, and model.
Sound and performance are enhanced by using a superior straight-through muffler design, mandrel-bent tubing, and applying the correct tubing diameter to the engine. For some Borla vehicles, the driver can choose from three different sound settings (Touring, S-Type, and ATAK) to match his or her preferences for vehicle audio. A Borla Cat Back exhaust system is also available. It is located behind the factory catalytic converter.
Your truck, SUV, or car will have an improved performance & sound with Borla Axle Back systems, replacing factory rear mufflers & exhaust pipes. The tips of most gas or diesel-fueled systems are welded.
Many modern vehicles come with a factory service point located behind the vehicle’s rear axle in the exhaust system (flange or slip-fit). The Borla Axle Back performance exhaust replaces your factory exhaust system (behind the frame rail) and is installed using the same hangers and rubber isolators as your original system.
Borla includes cutting instructions and hardware to complete the installation of Borla Axle Back performance exhaust systems for vehicles without a factory service point.
