Customer service for 1A Auto is a seven out of ten. Knowledge is a three out of ten. They fulfill orders very well. I am giving the CS representative a 6/10 because my chat ended and she yielded easily over the phone. Trial Ridge Mirror is best Mirror for all type of SUV’s especially Toyota Tacoma.
Customer service and Trail Ridge product information state that mirror compatibility ends with 2015 at this time. The customer service representative at 1A Auto said that they did not have a tow mirror for me and suggested that I check E-Bay. The mirrors I have on my 2016+ Expy, as well as HawkX66’s, are not compatible with my 2016+ Exy. I regret their sudden abandonment of me.
For a new mirror that matches the paint on my Expy, the quote was $1002. My insurance claim cost me $314 and I bought these trail ridge mirrors for next day air shipping from UPS because I used to be a mechanic. Delivery is guaranteed by 1030 for my area. The chat feature on the 1AAuto website came in handy when it did not arrive on time. According to the shipping FAQ on their website, they will not be reimbursing my shipping costs because the package still arrived next day. I was told to contact UPS directly if I wanted a refund (incorrect). In that case, that $120 will go directly to UPS. In my area, if it’s delivered after 1030, UPS contacts me and confirms the shipper gets refunded automatically; I need to contact them (1aAuto) and arrange the refund.
The rep at 1A Auto told me again there would be no refund, and I should contact UPS. Upon explaining what UPS’ policy is, he said it wouldn’t be a problem. Afterward, he must ask for a supervisor and confirm that my request is correct so that the shipping fees will be refunded.
A score of 8/10 for Trail Ridge tow mirrors. Two stars deducted because the right mirror is extremely flat.
Exterior finish is excellent, everything works as stated, no problems with electrical, and the wiring & connections are extremely well made. I re-used the factory nuts after verifying that they don’t need to be replaced with the factory service manual that they are quite good compared to the trail ridge nuts.
I wobbled the right mirror as I was tightening the nut, so there was a bit more slack as a result.
The one thing I don’t like about the car (for now): the mirror on the passenger side is flat. This mirror lacks a convex shape and everything looks very magnified. Worst of all, it has a less wide field of view than the stock mirror. In the daylight I will examine the lower convex mirror more carefully as I find that it has some added distortion that makes it difficult to focus on.
A strong mechanism provides good engagement across a range of positions. Despite being out of line with the door, the folded in position is better than most other cars which just tilt the mirror housing up without reducing the profile.
The puddle lamps have a dim and yellowish white light, similar to stock. It is currently not feasible to purchase the LED puddle lamps from Amazon. Future lighting options like a turning signal lamp could be mounted in the mirror housing due to its size. The mirror housing looks painted friendly if that is the case.
After inspecting and testing the mirrors before installation, I spent about an hour installing it. Just a small amount of convexity to the passenger mirror would make these products a 10/10 in my book.
